My first chiropractic experience

No, I was not one of those kids who grew up going to the chiropractor, or had a family member in chiropractic.  I actually never even went to one until my senior year of undergrad, and I'm pretty sure I recall at one point my grandpa talking about what "quacks" they are, haha.  (He is a dentist.)  I've always been interested in fitness and healthy living, so its surprising to me that I never thought of the idea until as late as I did.  Even in high school, I was the nominated team member to "crack" every ones backs every day before practice!  Really, I could have already been done with school if I would have made these connections...oh well.

My senior year I was involved in a pretty bad car wreck...I was t-boned in the middle of an intersection and my car spun around a couple times.  No severe injuries or anything, but totalled my car and got a nice case of whiplash.  Like most people would after waking up the next morning in extreme pain, I went to the student clinic on campus.  Of course they gave me the classic pain killers, anti inflammatories, and muscle relaxers...goody!  I actually felt GREAT for the 3 days they lasted and my friends can tell you some great stories about my actions, but the pain quickly came back.

One of my anatomy professors was a physical therapist so I emailed him asking for a recommendation for a chiropractor in the area.  He quickly referred me to a great one, I got a ride there and I will never forget that experience!  I went into the office not being able to turn my head AT ALL.  Not exaggerating, I left with about 90% of my motion back, in one treatment!  It was incredible and did not hurt one bit.  I went back several times over the next couple of months to get rid of all the adhesions built up in my muscle, but seriously chiropractic totally healed me, when other methods didn't.

I know there are a lot of misconceptions out there about chiropractic care, but from my experience most people that have their doubts have never been.  So my suggestion to them is to give it a try, you never know what it could do to help you!  I'm so happy to be going into a profession where I can help people feel better every day!

It’s true that people sometimes choose not to try chiropractic care because of rumors of it not being a part of modern medical practices. However, chiropractic care is a significant part of traditional and alternative medicine, and is method of manipulating the spine is actually considered one of the most effective means of easing pain. It’s good to hear that you’re one of the people who find it helpful and effective.

That’s so nice to hear from you, Abby! I’ve known many people who believe that chiropractic treatment is bad until they’ve tried it and became a regular chiropractic patient. There’s nothing bad about giving this treatment a try because it’s not going to harm you. It is non-invasive and you don’t need to take any medicine. In fact, it’s just like you are getting a massage therapy.

Recovering from an accident, like yours, is a tough experience. Good thing you recovered well, and thanks to your teacher who recommended the most trusted chiropractor in your town. It definitely has a huge part in your fast recovery. Anyway, I’m glad that you’re feeling better now.
